Background

Jimmy Jones was a normal kid, as far as 'normal' ever goes. No superpowers, a mom and a stepfather, a stepmother and a dad and an older stepsister and a little half-sister, and a reputation in school for being kind of a will-do-anything-for-attention daredevil and kind of a nerdlinger. But in elementary school, *really*, half the kids are maladjusted morons anyway, so he didn't really stick out like a sore thumb, and he didn't eat alone at lunch.

Then his mom and stepdad moved and he had the choice of either going with them or staying with his dad and stepmom and sisters, and his stepsister was seventeen and pretty much of the opinion that if Jimmy moved in with them she would have to kill him to save her social life, so move he did. The house next to theirs was empty and there weren't really any kids in the neighborhood, and the new school he started attending - middle school - well, the cliques were pretty well established already, and Jimmy was still kind of 'hey sticking pencils in my nose and walking around with them is funny' so he didn't really make any friends in seventh grade. Plus, twelve-year-olds are bitches.

Eighth grade came around and his mom and stepdad were like 'hey Jimmy you're going to have another sibling isn't that GREAT' and Jimmy was like 'uh… sure' but knew that unless he got kind of worse he was going to wind up having to babysit, and he was just starting to look for ways to get in trouble when another family moved in next door. With a son. Who was apparently around his age. And who, even if he verbally objected to Jimmy hanging around, didn't actually kick him out. And better still? He was a SUPERSCIENTIST. And even better? He had POWERS. And was actually like two years old but that didn't really process, and Jimmy basically got all up in the next door neighbor kid's stuff until said kid one day got exasperated enough from Jimmy continually pushing big red buttons and making experiments fail that he was like 'HERE DRINK THIS' and Jimmy went 'OK!' and /did/.

It did not turn him into a frog. It /did/ give him superpowers.

That was slightly more trouble than Jimmy was looking to get into, so he more or less tried to keep it a secret, even from his parents— and it *really* didn't work, because the neighbor kid's parents were like 'I AM SO SORRY' and the neighbor kid got sent away to school. So instead, he tried not to get in any more trouble.

That didn't work either.

In order to prevent any more property damage, or his super-pregnant stepmom from getting any more super-headaches from him getting into more trouble, Jimmy's being tutored through the rest of eighth grade and will be attending the Steranko Institute for summer classes and enrolling as a freshman in the fall.

Personality

Jimmy is friendly and generous but really hideously immature. He's not the kind of fourteen-year-old that adults give responsibilities to, he's the kind of fourteen-year-old that adults say 'GO TO YOUR ROOM' to. He's like a class clown, really, but he comes at it from such a bizarre angle that no one really gets the jokes, half the time; he does, in fact, do it for the attention. Even if the attention is 'what crack are you smoking, man?' and not in the 'and where can I get some?' way.

He's actually pretty smart — not supergenius level, but probably at least a 145 IQ — but his social filters are abysmally atrophied and he has absolutely nothing resembling common sense (witness Synapse telling him 'here, drink this' and him actually DOING it), so people tend to think he's dumb.

Maybe in a year or so he'll discover girls. Maybe in a year or so something will happen that will make him take responsibility for something, and then he'll be a lot easier to deal with. For now, though, he is apt to run around the halls of the school making airplane noises with his arms out like wings, and doing a long spit over the side of the building.

Complications

Daredevil:

  • Jimmy will take dares. Even if they're completely stupid and dangerous (but not generally if they're seriously nasty). He'll also get it into his head to do stupid things on his own if there's a chance of impressing people he thinks are cool (which at this point is everyone except himself).

Immature:

  • Jimmy's very very fourteen. He's the kind of kid who eats diner sculptures made out of the leftovers of what everyone else was eating. The kind of kid who hocks loogies and flicks boogers if left unsupervised. The kind of kid, in fact, who sneaks up behind people and lurks there with a horrible face until they turn around and scream. Or hit him. He is also a fan of Ding Dong Ditch.

Synapse:

  • The next door neighbor kid who accidentally gave him superpowers, Jimmy thinks he's the BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD and will pretty much do whatever he says. This is kind of a problem since Snaps has the judgement and emotional maturity of a two-year-old.

Villainous Stepsister:

  • Tiffany Parsons, Jimmy's seventeen-year-old stepsister, lives two towns over from Cove City. And she's basically a cross between older Susan Pevensie and the aged-up Jane and Katherine from Magic by the Lake, with an added dose of Cordelia Chase and Maleficent. She would love it if Jimmy just died, but as long as he doesn't do anything that makes headlines, she's content to act as though there's a restraining order present.

Notes:
Jimmy is, essentially, either a growth brick -or- a tiny, dodgy blaster. If a brick, he has a +6/+10 attack/damage tradeoff, and a +6/+10 defense/toughness tradeoff, with a +10 fort save and +5 reflex and will save. He has 8 ranks of impervious toughness and low level super-strength. If he's shrunk down to his minimum size (Currently about 6 inches), he is a blaster, with +12 attack, +4 damage from blast, +12 defense and +4 toughness, +5 fort and will, and +9 reflex. His init bonus is based on which form he starts the scene in, to avoid having to recalculate every time he swaps.
