Background

Do I feel out of place? Only by about a few thousand light-years… ah, sorry, I forget that this culture hasn’t developed bootstrap drives yet.

But I forget my manners, and they are very important. You are a guest, and you have rights of hospitality. Did you care for anything? The beverages you have on this world are far more delightful than the common fare of my home.

There, seated comfortably? Ah, well and good then. As I’m sure you’re all too aware, I’m not from around here. My homeworld, Eisn, orbits the star 128 Trianguli, which is sadly not visible from your Southern Hemisphere, though if you were looking, that’s where you might see it. Our sun is about the same as yours, though we have a double-planet that is worthy of the name, as opposed to your… well, Moon, I suppose. Though technically it is a double-planet system here too. I suppose a purist could always insist there were nine planets still in your system. But again, I digress.

My House is one of the more powerful ones on my planet, House s’Harien. My grandfather is on the High Council, one of the big movers and shakers, I suppose you would say. When our race discovered all those radio signals you were broadcasting out… well, we thought it prudent to investigate further. After some talks with your governments, we decided to send a diplomatic mission here to your United Nations. Really, I don’t know if that word means what you think it means, and words are very important.

Oh, the planet itself? Well, the powers that certain humans have… are a bit more, genetically distributed in my people. Those with powers have set themselves up to rule and protect and govern those that do not. You seem surprised… but really, it is a responsibility, though I would be lying if certain houses did not view it as something to be abused. But from what I have seen of this world… you have a similar arrangement, even if it is power in the figurative sense instead of the literal.

In any case, my father was chosen to come here as the ambassador to your not-quite-United Nations. Naturally, mother and I came along, and they were aware that I was still in the middle of ehre’tiel… ah, that would be the equivalent of your secondary schooling here. Since I didn’t have that education completed, I was brought in here, as I do have some special talents. Plus, this institution has the appropriate level of discretion for someone of my status.

I am uncertain as to whether I would wish to be one of these… costumed adventurers that so many here at school aspire to be. It seems so different, than the way it is on my world, but then again, I must confess to a certain excitement at the thought.

And I would not wish the inhabitants of this world to think that we were unworthy guests, after all.

Personality

Alia is a rather well-mannered and cultured young woman. She seems quite prim and proper, though she can get arrogant when she is displeased. However, when among those that she knows well, she can relax and unwind a bit, much to their surprise. She has a tendency to forget herself and start speaking in her native tongue when angered… or even when distracted, she’ll let terms slip through that don’t have an exact English meaning.

Complications:

  • 'I have a reputation to uphold': Alia has a large sense of duty, primarily because she (along with her parents) are a bit of a public face of her entire race to the masses of humanity on Earth. She tends to be very straight-laced, and is paranoid about having something happen that would result in disciplinary action. This is more of a roleplaying complication than a combat one.
  • 'A Keyboard… how quaint': Alia is… still getting used to the relative lack of modern (to her) technology. She often will be found assuming certain things about technology here, that simply isn't true. Such as talking to a door, then running into it when it doesn't automatically open… or even things such as keyboards and mice on computers.
  • 'Alien Invaders From Outer Space!': Despite the relative reception she gets at the school, a not-insignificant percentage of the population on Earth are still terrified of aliens and the possibility that they are going to turn them into slaves, or cook them with some fava beans and a nice chianti. While Alia remains relatively aloof of such nonsense, it can be seen in public gatherings now and again.
  • 'A Matter of Honor': Personal honor is very important to the Eisn people, and Alia will refrain from committing actions in combat that are dishonorable. This can include striking a helpless foe, allowing innocents to be harmed, or betraying her given word.
